Canadian Poker Games
Texas Hold’em
Texas Hold’em is sometimes referred to as just Hold’em. This is the most popular poker game across Canada. Hold’em is a variation of Stud poker. Each poker player is dealt two cards. Only the poker player will see these cards as the game progresses. The dealer then lays out five community cards which is referred to as the flop (3 cards), the turn, and the river – with a round of betting between each deal. These five cards will be visible to all players and are used by all players to create their best possible five-card poker hand. The game finishes with all remaining players revealing their cards, the winning hand being determined, and the winning poker player taking the pot.
There are many Canadian poker rooms that offer pot limit and no limit Texas Hold’em. The only difference between the two is the betting amounts. The maximum bet in pot limit is always determined by the size of the pot. As you may expect, there is no limit on the maximum bet in no limit poker.

Canadian Stud Poker
Canadian Stud Poker can be also referred to as Scandinavian Stud. This poker game is quite similar to 5 Card Stud. Instead, it offers players two extra winning hands. You may notice that this particular poker game is extremely popular in Canada.
The rules of Canadian Stud are exactly the same as 5 Card Stud. This poker game starts off with each player getting two cards. One of the cards will be face up and the other one will be face down. This is followed by a round of betting. Then, each player is dealt another card facing up, and another round of betting. This continues through four rounds. And like 5 Card Stud, the player with the highest hand, will win the game. Also like 5 Card Stud, if a winner is not determined by the end of the fourth round, the game goes into overtime to determine a winner.
It is important that all players of Canadian Stud poker are aware that there are two additional winning hands in this game. They are four card straights and four card flushes. These two hands are ranked between a pair and two pair in value, meaning that they are fairly low ranking hands. Nevertheless, they are winners.

Omaha
Omaha is one of the better-known poker games across the world, including Canada.
It is easy to compare Omaha poker to Texas Hold’em as they are quite similar. Each poker player is dealt four cards and only the player will see these cards. The dealer will then deal five community cards which is referred to as the flop (3 cards), the turn, and the river. Then there is a round of betting between each flop. The object of the game is to create the best poker hand using two of the player’s cards and three community cards. The game finishes with all remaining players revealing their cards, the winning hand being determined, and the winning poker player taking the pot.
There are a couple versions of Omaha, but this is a general overview of the game. Obviously the best way to learn the game would be to play Omaha at an online poker table. Check out our recommended online Canadian poker rooms to get started.

5 and 7 Card Stud
5 Card Stud is a poker game that still remains popular across the world. In Canada, 5 Card stud is better-known as Canadian Stud.
Each poker player will receive one card face down and one card that will be face up. This is followed by a round of betting that starts with the player showing the highest ranked card (if there is no bring-in). Each player is then dealt a second face up card and another round of betting will take place. This continues through four rounds. If, by this point a winner has not been determined, the game enters into an overtime round in which the remaining players will turn over all of their cards to determine a winner.
Before Texas Hold’em increased in popularity, 7 Card Stud was the game to play in many Canadian casinos. Don’t worry, this poker game is still frequently found in many online and real life poker rooms across Canada!
The game is played much like 5 Card Stud, though the players are initially dealt two cards facing down and one facing up. After an initial round of betting, each player is again dealt another card face up, and another round of betting follows. This is continued through four rounds. Like 5 Card Stud, if a winner has not been determined by this point, the game goes into a showdown.
